AMD, a leading manufacturer of graphics cards and processors, has recently introduced a new feature called Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) to its software driver, meaning this will work on all supported games, rather than games having to add support for it manually. AFMF is a frame generation technology that aims to increase frame rates and smooth movement for game-winning performance with minimal impact to image quality. AFMF works by inserting synthetic frames between the original frames rendered by the GPU, creating a smoother and more fluid motion in games.
AFMF is integrated into AMD Software and currently supports the Radeon RX 6000 and 7000 series graphics cards, as well as the 700M-based APUs. AFMF can be globally enabled for any DirectX 11 and 12 title using HYPR-RX or the AMD Fluid Motion Toggle. AFMF can also be combined with AMD Radeon Anti-Lag for the optimal experience, as AFMF may introduce additional latency in games. AFMF is recommended to be used on AMD FreeSync displays, as it preserves image quality by dynamically disabling frame generation during fast motion. AFMF can offer up to 97% average performance uplift in some games, making it a game-changing feature for AMD users.
