Researchers from MIT's Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, CSIL, have created an AI knitting system. The AI knitting system would help to automate the knitting process for clothing manufacturing, and it could also make the manufacturing process more eco-friendly by eliminating a portion of the waste created by clothing production.
Or alternatively, hobbyists could use the computer-aided knitting system to create different garments for personal use. Users could even create customizable computer templates to produce different clothing options, on top of that different texture patterns could also be applied. The system was tested, and users with no previous knitting experience were able to use the system to create hats and gloves.
One of the researchers indicated that the aim of the project was to make knitting more accessible and customizable.
