AG Metro wants to make sure young girls feel empowered from the day they're born and on International Women's Day, the German retail company gave every baby girl born in Dusseldorf, Germany on that day a $2,500 deposit, to encourage entrepreneurship in their adult life.
The campaign is entitled 'Own Business Girls' and came as a response to a public survey which interviewed 10,000 people in over 10 countries. The most notable result from the survey revealed that nearly half of the women interviewed expressed interest in starting their own company, but only 12% felt confident enough to pursue this dream. The company hopes the deposit will help each baby girl feel supported to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors.
The babies that qualified for the deposit will have access to the money once they turn 18.
