Johnson & Johnson Vision, the eye health division of Johnson & Johnson, has announced that it has received approval from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) for ACUVUE® Theravision™ with Ketotifen -- a first-of-its-kind vision correction contact lens that doubles as an allergic eye itch solution.
The innovative new lens contains ketotifen, an H1 histamine receptor used to prevent eye itch associated with allergies. Of course, this solution is targeted specifically to contact lens wearers, who report higher rates of allergy-associated eye irritation. In addition, itchy allergy eyes are more likely to negatively impact contact lens wearers' vision, which results in many opting to switch to glasses during peak allergy season.
"We're proud to bring forward a new contact lens that simultaneously provides vision correction and relief of allergic eye itch, without the need for allergy eye drops," said Dr. Brian Pall, OD, MS, FAAO, Director, Clinical Science, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care.
