Balbek Bureau Transformed 6:19 Studio Into a Sparse Space
Elena Rahman — August 20, 2021 — Art & Design
Balbek Bureau transformed 6:19 Studio into a sparse minimalistic space. Taking queues from the tattoo parlor's minimalist art style, the design firm translated the shop with jarring wall cut-outs set in a white-based color scheme. Located on the ground floor of a residential building in Kyiv's historic Podil neighborhood, the space boasts 111 square meters.
Owned by Ukrainian artist Ulyana Nesheva, the studio opted for a design that portrays simplicity in its highest form of complexity. The juxtaposing themes make for an open-plan layout using a monochrome palette of black and white paired with concrete and stainless steel. Resembling a contemporary art workshop, the parlor uses round and rectangular wall openings instead of doors to separate spaces.
