This organically flowing lamp was designed using 3D modeling technology. As such it can't be represented on 2-D blueprints and can't be easily mass produced. You can see why the design is called "Flight 815 : Flight of the Fireflies" for the parts of the lamp appears to track the flight path of the insects. The lamp was created using loose powder sintering technology which involves the compacting and heating of the powder at a temperature below its melting point to fuse it together. Complex objects which are impractical to cast can thus be formed.
The creator is Cedric Ragot who made only six of these. He is a graduate of the French National Institute for the Advanced Study of Design. He now has his own design studio.
