Thankfully, the $1,000 bagel was created as a charity fund raiser, and not for every day consumption. The chef of The Westin New York concocted this bagel with a schmear of white truffle cream cheese and a goji berry Reisling jelly and gold leaves. Also for sale is an ice-cream sundae with a 23 karat edible gold leaf, and caviar and lobster pizza.
The limited edition bagel can only be purchased until December 14, the proceeds of which will go towards Les Amis d'Escoffier Scholarship for culinary arts students.
"Bagels are a New York food landmark, which is where the base for this dish came from. White truffles are a simple, quality ingredient that takes the meal, or the bagel in this case, to the next level," said chef Frank Tujague.
"By giving back a portion of the proceeds, we are inspiring future chefs to think outside the box and maximize culinary creativity."
This gives a whole new meaning to rich food!
