Art may seem like a pure pursuit, but, like anything else in the world, it is deeply impacted by the environment surrounding it, and the May 2017 art trends demonstrate that. Technology today connotes high-minded and self-important Silicon Valley bigwigs — not the most artistic group — but modern technology has a massive bearing on veritable artists and their work as well.
For example, 'Digital Grotesque II' is a sculpture on display at Paris' Centre Pompidou, and its impossibly intricate, grotto-like shape comes not from the mind of its creator directly, but from the work of an algorithm and a 3D sandstone printer. In fact, the structure has 1.3 billion individual facets, more than any other sculpture or structure ever created.
