From All-Purpose Mini PCs to Open-Source Laptop Processors

The July 2024 computers trends showcase the continued trend toward artificial intelligence and edge computing in the consumer electronics space. Nearly every household brand computer company is launching laptops, desktops, tablets, or components designed around the AI-enabled future.
For example, AMD announced its Ryzen AI 300-series processors designed specifically for the future of local edge computing. These processors feature powerful NPUs capable of running Microsoft's Copilot+ suite of AI tools as well as the ability to run simultaneous workloads, as it can offload more tasks to its AI-centric NPU. AMD states that this series will feature the fastest consumer processor in the world.
AI is not only affecting computing, though, as even home entertainment devices are being enhanced with local AI processors. Mediatek, an ARM architecture CPU manufacturer, announced its 'Pentonic 800' chips designed to improve the quality of smart home televisions through various added features, such as AI upscaling, image sharpening, and smoothing.
