The celebrity mugshot isn't the only popular type of photo caught in this candid fashion. From gangster lookbooks to mugshot artwork, the mugshot has been used in various ways to sell products and garner attention.
Karin Jurick for example used the mugshots of over 100 criminals as inspiration and the canvas for one of her works. The art features the faces of various people caught in the act and posing for the camera. The entire canvas is painted, and features vibrant colors to ensure each person stands out. Other examples include mugshots generated from DNA to be used to help solve investigations, as well as mugshots used for vintage fashion lookbooks. Either way the celebrity mugshot is only one kind of mugshot that circulates in pop culture today.
