For a long time, the idea of activism and business holding hands would seem like an absurd gesture -- or at the very best, a smart marketing campaign for attention -- however, these activism-focused social businesses show how a business model can work when it comes to organizing, civic society and nonprofit work. And there is so much inspiring innovation to learn and grow from.
One recent innovation that SocialBusiness.org covered that is not included as part of these activism-focused social businesses was what we called a democratic activist app, which is called Loomio. It is a crowdsourced decision-making app that came out of the worldwide Occupy Wall Street protests in 2011. It has also moved beyond the streets and its activist founder, Benjamin Knight, says that it can also be used for small businesses and organizations.
