From Effervescent Mermaid Editorials to Drug Dealer Love Cards
Vasiliki Marapas — January 11, 2015 — Pop Culture
It's no surprise that pop culture heavily influenced the top 2014 media trends.
This year was all about the drama. Similar to a live-action Disney remake or an HB0 crime thriller, trends in media tended to emulate the theatricality of Hollywood productions. There was an emphasis on fantasy, enchantment and fairy-tale -- the stuff dreams are made of (especially Hollywood dreams).
However, most notably, there seemed to be more of a self-awareness happening. Yes, the media was attempting to construct a fantasy, but there was an understanding that it was not rooted in reality. Having a greater level of transparency allowed users to indulge, happily, and with less guilt.
