Packaging label Faerch is using customer PET trays collected from European kerbside waste to create new food-grade plastic trays for Tesco products. Thanks to the new partnership, accurately dubbed Tray 2 Tray, Tesco's ready meal trays will contain a minimum of 30% recycled tray content. Additionally, the brands will be able to ensure that food-grade PET is repurposed within the supply chain instead of being downcycled.
“We are determined to close the loop on our packaging – for it to be fully recyclable and contain recycled content wherever possible. We remain committed to reducing our environmental impact, and helping our customers to do the same, as we work together to protect our planet," said Adele Kearns, packaging development manager at Tesco.
