These Dutch Cycling Paths Are Sheathed In Photovoltaic Cells
Rahul Kalvapalle — December 28, 2023It's no secret that cycling is extremely popular in the Netherlands, a country that is renowned for being ahead of the curve when it comes to creating high-quality cycling paths and other infrastructure, with this healthy habit now being harnessed for the mission of sustainable energy with the creation of paths that are sheathed in photovoltaic cells.
Created as part of a collaboration between Wattway and the BAM Royal Group, these cycling paths cover a total surface area of 2,000 square meters, half of which is in North Holland and the rest in the North Brabant region. The cycling paths are essentially covered in photovoltaic cells that face the sky. What makes them a great innovation is the fact that they can be set up on existing cycling paths
By making use of the already environmentally friendly habit of cycling in order to augment infrastructure with renewable energy-generation capabilities, these cycling paths well and truly represent an innovative way to foster sustainability in transportation.
