The Tesco Laser-Etched Avocados Reduce Packaging Waste

The Tesco laser-etched avocados have been unveiled by the UK-based grocery store chain in a bid to reduce reliance on plastic stickers and packaging in its various locations.
The produce will be making its way to 270 locations across southeast England this week as part of a trial and, if successful, will be rolled out nationwide in the months ahead. The initiative was created in partnership with avocado supplier Westfalia Fruit and will see high-powered lasers used to etch the information about the fruit onto its skin. The retailer will also be using cardboard containers in place of plastic alternatives.
Avocado Buyer Lisa Gilbey spoke on the Tesco laser-etched avocados saying, "We’re always looking for innovative ways to reduce the environmental impact of our products and cut down on plastic waste in the home through changes to our packaging."
