Reusable packaging container provider IFCO launched a digitally enabled reusable fish crate called Marina that brings better protection, efficiency and sustainability to the fishing industry. This smart crate was created in close collaboration with the fishing industry and it integrates Bluetooth tags and QR codes for real-time data collection. Enhanced with this technology, the crates support the cold chain management of fresh and chilled products along the whole fish and seafood supply chain.
This reusable crate provides an alternative to single-use expanded polystyrene (EPS) boxes that are being phased out by government regulations in many countries because of the contamination and microplastic pollution they cause. IFCO Fish Crates can be efficiently reused up to 120 times, and sustainably recycled at the end of their usable life.
