Worcester-based BioPak, a leading supplier of eco-friendly packaging in the UK, has introduced a new line of sustainable sushi trays and lids. Compared to traditional plastic alternatives, these trays and lids significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75%, enhancing customer satisfaction and supporting modern sustainability efforts.
The sushi tray bases are crafted from bagasse, consisting of 80% sugarcane and 20% bamboo pulp. The sugarcane pulp is a rapidly renewable resource derived from a by-product typically incinerated after the juice extraction process in sugar production. This innovative use of bagasse minimizes waste and offers a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic trays.
The new sushi trays are available in three sizes to accommodate various needs: small, long, and large. Each tray has a leak-proof bioplastic lid with an anti-fog additive.
“We’re excited to launch this new product which will be perfect for restaurants around the country. We’ve seen a lot of demand in anticipation for this particular product and, as always, we’re glad we can provide a market-leading packaging solution that is better for the planet than the traditional plastic-based alternative," said Leanne Osborne, Managing Director of BioPak UK.
