The Lil/Euralille Youth Centre by JDS Architects is the winner of a design contest for the building of a new youth center in Lille, France. JDS Architects' design features an incredible distorted, contorted triangular shape, and provides an innovative structure for housing a kindergarten, youth hostel and offices.
According to the designers, the design of the building emerged from the idea of building an "urban catalyst." They wanted to put three distinct and separate areas in the structure to accommodate the three functions--kindergarten, youth center and office space -- it is to serve. So, each corner of the triangular building will be dedicated to one of these areas, allowing for maximum privacy.
The Lil/Euralille Youth Centre by JDS Architects also features cantilevered corners at each of its three blocks, which surround a central, triangle-shaped courtyard.
