The Xarranca Pavilion was recently built in Barcelona by Urban-Think Tank, and is set to open on June 10, 2014. Overall the design is meant to promote social interaction and play amongst the people of the city.
According to DesignBoom, "referencing the children’s game of hopscotch, the arrangement leads visitors through a sequence of spaces from sòl (ground) to cel (sky), with an intention of symbolizing the hope and idealism that shaped the development of post-war Europe." Clearly there's more to the Xarranca Pavilion than simply metal bars, as the designers put a lot of work into the symbolic meaning of the design.
While the pavilion does promote playful interactions, it also offers a symbolic meaning to those who visit. Photo Credits: designboom, u-tt
