Persian rugs are a product of the era that they were first created in; the Worldwide Carpets is just that as well, but for this generation. Inspired by the images obtained from Google Earth, Worldwide Carpets utilizes the images of urban landscapes and the advancements of technology to become something just as stunningly intricate in craftsmanship as Persian rugs, but simply on a more modern scale.
Created by David Hanauer, a Munich-based designer studying at the Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Arts, these Worldwide Carpets mirror the overall look and technique of Persian rugs by arranging the Google Earth images symmetrically. Instead of being hand-knotted, however, the Worldwide Carpets are printed onto polyester using colorfast dyes.
