This Wildfire Prevention Technology Helps Monitor Fires from Afar

This firefighting UAV is designed to help with wildfire prevention. These disposable drones will give firefighters a greater understanding of the conditions that spark wildfires, as well as keep an eye on the current state of a wildfire from a safe distance. The drones are equipped with sensors developed by the University of Queensland that will relay information about the forest to researchers.

This wildfire prevention technology takes the form of two familiar objects: a paper airplane and a maple seed. The paper airplane drone is made of cellulose, which makes it very easy to print and fold into shape.

The shape of each UAV gives it a unique flying pattern. Just like the seed from a maple tree, the drone falls to the ground in a twirling motion to ensure the sensor arrives safely.
