UK-based supermarket chain Waitrose is launching new aluminum packaging for its canned white wines, swapping out its previous glass bottles. Due to the limitations placed on those appellations, the upscale supermarket will switch to cans for all of its 187ml glass bottles, except the small bottles of Rioja, Prosecco, Cava, and Champagne. A wide variety of white, red, and rosé wines, including fan favorites like Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, and Pinot Grigio, will be available in the new canned range format in sizes of 187ml, 200ml, and 250ml.
As a result of the packaging swap-out, Waitrose will save 320 tonnes of packaging due to the lightweight nature of aluminum cans. In addition, cans can be recycled unlimited times, ensuring that they do not end up in landfills.
