Rogers recently teamed up with Jaunt, the NHL and Samsung to create a VR hockey experience for Toronto's Air Canada Centre. Beyond simply bringing visitors closer to the ice, the high-tech system also allows visitors to enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences such as driving the Zamboni or joining the post-game media scrum.
The new VR experience is part of the newly built Fan Zone at the Air Canada Centre. The area is outfitted with 10 Samsung Gear VR headsets, which are preloaded with the Jaunt app. Using the app, visitors can access content that brings different NHL experiences to life, such as the All-Star game and the Winter Classic. The experience allows fans to get closer to the ice and even visit areas that fans would not normally see, such as the dressing room. Mark Messier even provides narration for a true VR hockey experience.
The high-tech fan zone at the Air Canada Centre demonstrates how VR technology can be incorporated into stadiums to give fans a new level of immersive entertainment.
