VOID designed an offset stack of concrete units to form a small apartment building on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The lush area creates a tropical concrete getaway. Dubbed the Guaruma building, the units overlook the ocean from a hillside plot in Santa Teresa.
The building is comprised of five apartments. Guests can rent out single units within the building or the entire villa for up to 14 visitors. VOID chose to arrange the building as a stack of four cuboid volumes slightly offset from one and another due to the challenging topography of the area. The steep plot makes for a unique building design. Board-formed concrete was selected as the Guaruma building's primary material.
