'New Genres: Video in the Internet Age' Examines New Culture

New York's Museum of Moving Image has been dedicated to film, television and digital media since its inception, but its newest exhibit, dubbed 'the New Genres: Video in the Internet Age', focuses on how modern technology has drastically changed media. The focus of the exhibit is meant to examine how modern technology has changed not just how we watch videos, but also how we make and share them — and just exactly what these videos are in the first place. The exhibit is being organized by MoMI Curator of Digital Media Jason Eppink and Associate Curator Sarah Ullman and seeks to explore the ways in which the internet has created new and distinct genres of media.

At a time when vloggers and internet figures have become new celebrities, the New Genres: Video in the Internet Age exhibit aims to understand why this is and how it has drastically changed the landscape of consumable media. The exhibition will feature a host of displays, and Polygon, a videogame website, will include a series of videos breaking down topics, including ASMR, Unboxing, Explainers, Let’s Play, Reaction videos and Vlogging.
