United Way North East Ontario is spearheading an impactful initiative, "Keeping Seniors Warm," to provide essential winter clothing and footwear to older adults facing financial constraints. In its inaugural year, the event plans to assist 20 participants, referred through partner agencies.
With a $175 credit, seniors can choose winter necessities like coats, boots, accessories, and other items essential for staying warm and safe during the chilly winter months. The participants will engage in a personalized shopping experience where each is paired with a dedicated volunteer.
"We’re excited to be launching this initiative in the Nipissing region and help some of our community’s most vulnerable population," says Cathy Seguin, Nipissing Community Engagement Coordinator for United Way. "With many older adults on fixed incomes, having proper footwear typically doesn’t fit in the budget. Keeping Seniors Warm can help ensure they have access to basic needs."
