Architecture studio Prior Barraclough adds a new extension to a cottage dubbed the Union State House in Melbourne. It is a structure with paneling that is made entirely from Australian hardwood. This can be found in the Northcote neighborhood and is home to a recently retired couple looking for a more functional living space.
The studio was then tasked with the project of extending the site whilst honoring the streetscape. The practice explains, "The entire extension is arranged on a 75 milimetre grid that governs joinery openings, door positions, room dimensions and material alignments. To align timber boards with this grid across surfaces pitched at different angles, each board had to be milled to precise and often varying dimensions."
