With the growing popularity of order-in food, QSRs are searching for ways to make the restaurant experience as convenient and easy as possible, and UFood Grill in Owing Mills, Maryland, is testing one such technology. The fast casual establishment has recently introduced a process designed by tech company Nextep Systems that uses facial recognition to help customers place orders faster.
When ordering for the first time from UFood Grill, customers can use either the staffed counter or a Nextep kiosk. If they choose the kiosk, the interface will ask whether they want to save their order once completed. Customers can save the order with their phone numbers or, if they choose, by facial recognition. Should they opt for the latter, the kiosk will take and save a picture, and it will automatically suggest that saved order when the customer comes back next time. According to UFood Grill's CEO, these facial recognition transactions take approximately four seconds.
