Turned House, a project by architecture and design firm MZC Plus, cleverly combines modern design techniques with one of the oldest architectural typologies in the world. The house, which is located in Treviso, Italy, looks like a traditional nuclear family home that has been lifted by a storey, such that the floor that would be the basement in a normal home is above ground, with the rest of the rooms propped up on those walls.
In terms of actual design features, Turned House gets its look thanks to a combination of cantilevering and gabled roofs. The gables on the upper floors lend it a traditional taste, similar to a barn or farmhouse. However, those gables extend dramatically thanks to the use of thick, cantilevered floors.
