Traditional Triangular Forest Shelters

Aix Arkitekter's Timber Roof Protects a Historic Monument

Stockholm-based design studio AIX Arkitekter was tasked with the job of creating a triangular forest shelter to protect the site of a ninth century church from natural elements. The location of the historic structure is in Southwest Sweden and it was found in excavations during 2005 in the village of Varnhem. It is believed to be the oldest Christian church in the country discovered to date.

AIX Arkitekter created a traditional triangular forest shelter roof, utilizing timber wood. The Kata Farm project creates a barrier that withstands the destructive properties of wind and rain, while also allowing for a functional exhibition space. This grants locals and travelers access to the immersive historic narrative of the mid-1000s.
