As part of a challenge to create a toy box packaging design that was also sustainable, Michelle Mckeon developed this unique package that can also be turned into a lamp after its contents are emptied.
The doll box design adopts a retro-style, a simple shape and does away with plastic. The toy doll on the inside of the box is protected with folding panels that also serve as a playset when removed from the box. Once all of the contends of the box have been removed, the perforated surface of the box can be transformed into a lampshade. With her design, Mckeon estimates that 78% of the package is used effectively. In addition to this, the box is printed on biodegradable fiber form, which helps cut down on waste.
