'The Whale' is a visitor attraction for the small northern Norway town of Andenes on the island of Andøya that has been created by the Dorte Mandrup studio as a place to enjoy unparalleled views of the majestic namesake cetacean.
The building draws design inspiration from the very marine mammal visitors could catch glimpses of as they migrate through the northern sea region. The building features a subtle design that seamlessly blends into the landscape and encourages visitors to explore the interior and exterior areas at their leisure.
CEO of The Whale AS Borre Beglund spoke about the winning design from an international competition saying that, "The project from Dorte Mandrup is a clear winner and meets the competition criteria in the best way. It is poetic and low-key and at the same time a very exciting and unusual building."
