Reza Baluchi created the Hydropod, a DIY floating bubble, to act as a vessel to walk across the Atlantic Ocean. Baluchi set the trip to begin in St Augustine, Florida, and end in New York City. Baluchi spent the last decade perfecting the floating object to ensure its safety and navigation tools were adequate for the trip.
The ambitious traveler is not foreign to long journeys as he ran from Los Angeles to New York City. Intending to raise funds for first responders, sick children, and unhoused individuals, the former professional cyclist had to cut his ocean trek short after a malfunction followed by equipment robbery. Hydropod's final form features cylindrical steel grating and two support additions made out of buoys.
