The Grand Budapest Hotel Graphic Designer Creates Fictional Magic

Creating a fantastical and meticulous fictional State of Zubrowka, Wes Anderson's latest film The Grand Budapest Hotel is a visual psychedelic gem. It was with the help of lead graphic designer Annie Atkins that this film became a treat.

Responsible for everything graphic in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Atkins designed every little detail from scratch, which included everything from flags, to banknotes to postage stamps to make sure the designs were as authentic as possible to imitate an Eastern European feel.

"Working with Wes and his production designer Adam Stockhausen, we created all the graphic props and set-pieces for the State of Zubrowka – a fictitious European country set between the Wars," says Atkins.

The movie was filmed on the German and Polish border to get a better sense of Eastern Europe.
