The Tattersall Kernza Whiskey is a sustainable spirit created as an alternative to existing whiskeys on the market that aims to offer consumers a way to prioritize eco-friendly drinking.
The spirit is made with 100% Kernza grains, which are a perennial grain that doesn't have to be replanted each year, and thus supports soil health, carbon capturing and more. The spirit itself was aged for three-years in charred virgin oak barrels, and is reported to have notes of grapes, red fruits and a nutty undertone. The spirit comes in with a 45% ABV. comes in 750ml bottles and has a suggested price point of $80.
Director of Crop Stewardship at The Land Institute Tessa Peters commented on the Tattersall Kernza Whiskey saying, "Perennial grains like Kernza have a place in our glasses and on our farms. The true power of perennial grain agriculture to help regenerate our soil, water, and climate will only be realized when grown at scale by farmers and utilized by sustainably minded producers like Tattersall Distilling."
