In an effort to raise awareness about smog and pollution, Studio Roosegaarde is designing jewelry. The Smog Free Project from Dutch designer Dan Roosegaarde involves air-purifying towers as well as accessories made from smog for cleaner cities.
The jewelry line from Studio Roosegaarde consists of rings and cufflinks, making them suitable for both women and men. The accessories aren't just made out of 'smog cubes,' but they also remove 1000m3 of polluted air. This is actually reflected in the cube itself, as the residue is compressed inside (similar to the compression of diamonds). This also makes the project free of waste.
The global vacuum towers stage of the initiative will launch in Rotterdam in Septemver 2015. The crowdfunded traveling campaign will go to major cities such as Beijing, Paris, LA and Mexico City.
