This clever concept for skipping stone fish food was developed as a means to bring usefulness to the recreational activity of skimming rocks along the surface of lakes. Some people get great joy or peace out of the repetitive and motion, but shouldn't the inhabitants of these bodies of water get something out of this pastime as well?
A team of ten designers from the Shenyang Aerospace University won a 2014 Red Dot Design Award for this idea. Essentially, they've proposed compressing fishmeal into disks, inspired in shape by the organic forms of smooth river rocks. Each one would be branded with the Skipping Fish Food logo––a man preparing to throw one of the nutrient-rich rocks offshore. This project's success demonstrates a growing interest and desire for dual-benefit designs.
