Geek TV Shows as Movies

Trailer and Stills from 2009's 'Star Trek' Film

Star Trek fans just got a treat with the first advance stills and the first trailer of the new Star Trek movie, which will be out in May 2009. These were released by Paramount and offers pictures of all the brand new (and young!) crew on the sleek-looking bridge of the USS Enterprise.

Director J.J. Abrams was detail-oriented and insisted that every prop shown in the movie should have functionality. Fans may be wondering why Captain Kirk is sporting a black shirt and not in his regulation yellow uniform--it's part of the plot and we will have to wait till next summer to find out why.

At the end of this trailer are the comparative pictures of the main characters from the original TV series and the new cast. Some familiar faces are Eric Bana as a Romulan and Winona Ryder as Amanda Grayson.

It remains to be seen if this makeover will deliver a truly fresh take on the franchise.
