Winter is a time for deep, rich tastes and scents, which smoky cocktails offer in abundance. Warming people to the bones in a uniquely nostalgic way, these alcoholic beverages are a nice alternative to hot cocoa and apple cider. David Graver of Cool Hunting set out to try three smoky cocktails in particular around the city of New York.
At Williamsburg's Extra Fancy, Danny Neff has created the Caipi’Smoke’Ya, the key ingredient of which is carmalized brown sugar. Graver then headed down to TriBeCa's new restaurant and bar American Cut, where David Boxwill has created the Smoking Scotsman, which involves smoke for a maple plank to infuse the drink. Lastly, the Blue Ridge Manhattan from Pouring Ribbons boasts a smoked Laphroaig rinse. These three smoky cocktails will satisfy anyone's thirst.
