Shape-Shifting Houses

The Sharifi-Ha House Has a Trio of Rotatable Cube-Shaped Rooms

The Sharifi-Ha House is an incredibly creative and mind-bending work of architecture created by the Iranian architects at Next Office. The house's shape can be manipulated depending on the amount of sun, fresh air or privacy its residents need at any given moment. The seven-floor home is engineered to be flexible, with three volumes that can be swung out towards the street.

These rotating cubes can serve as seasonal energy-saving solutions. In the summer, they can be swung out to ventilate the home with breeze and add additional outdoor space with sun-bathed patios. In the winter, the walls can help shut out cold air and trap heat indoors.

The Sharifi-Ha House's rotational mechanism is similar to that used in moving exhibitions in museums and swiveling shipping containers at ports. The system was fabricated in Germany.
