Diet-Induced Children's Ailments

Rise in Kidney Stones in US Kids

Kidney stones are a massive pain in the stomach, and now for children as young as age 5 too. Formerly, this disease was known for affecting middle-aged people over 50. Now a frightening US survey discovered a huge rise in the number of children with kidney stones.

Doctors say that back in the 70s and 80s, they would see about one to children with the problem a month. Today, it is at least once a week. This increase in US kidney stones among children is hard to pin down on one thing, but doctors and professors agree it is a dietary issue. More specifically, they attribute it to factors like additives and salt and not drinking enough water.

So here is a trend for you school kids: Drink water. Lots of it!
