The New York Police Department is the latest to join Ring Neighbors, which is a special neighborhood-centric surveillance network that is centered around Amazon's Ring security cameras. This was only recently announced and this means that the NYPD is able to view people's posts on the network and post directly onto it as well.
This allows residents of certain neighborhoods to post and discuss crime as well as safety measures using footage captured on their cameras. Many law enforcements have joined the network in recent years and now the largest American police force is diving into it as well. Currently, there are about 200 police departments that have Ring partnerships since 2019 and some officers received free cameras to encourage others to incorporate it.
