Retro-Futuristic Lighting

John Stephenson's Sculptures Made From Antique Car Parts

John Stephenson has been making lighting sculptures since the 1980’s. He likes to reconstruct fixtures from various car parts from the 1930’s-1960’s to make retro forms representing the "future."

He calls his work "combines" because he takes automobile lights and mechanical parts (like the speedometer) and electrical (like the clock) for a finished piece that has a 1950’s sci-fi look. He refers to his work as "biomorphic (human, aquatic, avian, insect) references with modernist era futuristic fantasies."
