Situated in the Brooklyn Navy Yard ReThink Food NYC is a new nonprofit organization that's turning food scraps into culinary meals for the hungry. ReThink Food NYC is the brainchild of Matt Jozwiak -- a former station chef at Eleven Madison Park and chef curator at the New York Academy of Medicine -- and officially launched int he fall of 2017. The idea to launch this organization came Jozwiak's past in running kitchens and identifying the ways in which kitchens wasted food. The kitchen behind ReThink Food NYC is currently run by Empellon and Lincoln alum Aron Pobereskin and a team of dedicated volunteers.
The meals produced by the ReThink Food differ from other food organizations simply because of the skill and quality put into each dish. The nonprofit takes advantage of pristine restaurant food scraps and culinary expertise to create amazing dishes that are served to the less fortunate in New York. ReThink Food NYC currently operates partially with the Food Bank for NYC and delivers its food to the Bowery Mission, New York City Rescue Mission or wherever the Food Bank determines is most in need.
