'Restaurants for Change' is a fundraising initiative that will donate proceeds from participating restaurants to Community Food Centres Canada. This year, 60 restaurants across Canadian cities will participate in the event that hopes to bring more light to the issue of food scarcity. More importantly, the project wants to expose that not only is food scarce in some areas, access to healthy foods in major cities is a widespread problem.
The Restaurants for Change PSA features some of Toronto's most prominent chefs explaining this very problem. As the chefs discussed, the lack of healthy food creates a chain reaction that begins from childhood, often resulting in dietary conditions that ultimately hampers the healthcare system. The PSA also acknowledges that healthy food is often too expensive for most families and its access should not be a privilege, but a right.
