Designed to resemble a grand stage set, the Luminaire light installation by Rem Koolhaas fuses classical and modern design details. The famed architect creates a light-made architecture piece that measures 6 metres in height by 20 metres in length.
The structure is built using thousands of colored glass bulbs and 15 kilograms of Swarovski Crystal Rocks that emit a vibrant glow when illuminated. "Together the crystal and light highlight the traditional Venetian archways, evoking the elaborate Renaissance façades of Venice’s palazzos."
In addition to its historical inspirations, the Luminaire light installation by Rem Koolhaas also references the urban lighting projects of today that are usually realized at a large scale. The piece will be displayed at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia that runs from June 7 to November 23, 2014.
