The 'Recent Broken Faces' portrait series captures tormented souls. Dark and disturbing, these mismatched works are much more emotional than the Tokyo-based illustrator and collage artist's previous portfolio, titled ID Women. Although there was an ever-present sadness in the eyes of those past portraits, there is a much stronger undercurrent of sorrow here, not to mention pain and suffering as well.
Created by Takahiro Kimura, the Recent Broken Faces art series does not stem from emotions, however. Since Kimura does not deem to presume he can capture true human feelings, which he describes as "complicated and elusive," he simply focuses on his own "aesthetic sense." He writes, "[I]f you feel some complicated emotions of human beings are expressed out of my work, it might be projections of what you have inside. The broken faces might be mirrors to reflect your emotions."
