For the 2022 FIFA World Cup Quatar, Fenwick Iribarren Architects plans to construct the modular Ras Abu Aboud stadium in Doha primarily from modified shipping containers. As such, the stadium can be taken apart and put back together after the match in an entirely new location.
Although many structures that are made using repurposed steel shipping containers tend to remain mostly rectangular in form, the Ras Abu Aboud stadium will be arranged in what is being called an "elegant curved square." As a whole, the Ras Abu Aboud stadium will feature 40,000 removable seats, as well as other basic stadium essentials.
The sustainable stadium concept is set to inspire other designers and developers, as the structure even has the potential to be repurposed for smaller sporting events or a different type of venue to hold large crowds.
