Vortex-Mimicking Pavilions

This Pavilion Titled PortHole Looks Like an Optical Illusion Portal

‘TOMA!’ has created this unique pavilion called the PortHole for the Lively Architecture Festival in La Grande Motte, France. This pavilion is designed by layering different sized planks of wood to create an abstract shape.

The entire pavilion has a hole in the middle that can be used as a shaded seating area for tourists and passersby. The sculptural structure reveals an ever-changing shape. Each piece of wood is placed on top of one another with a small gap of space between each one.

The PortHole pavilion plays a trick on the eyes because different shapes are revealed depending on the angle at which the viewer is looking at it. The design is created with an "ad hoc optical and mathematical processes which, starting from a cube, enables a recreated pure geometry of the circle."
