Julie Cooper of Don Bar in Stockton spent one full year converting the walls of her pub into a British war memorial using poppy decor. The eatery now features 70,000 poppies placed in strategic patterns to honor fallen soldiers.
The poppy decor is sprawled across one main wall and flows upwards onto the ceiling. Julia has also placed images and historical memorabilia around the bar so her patrons can reflect and remember the heroic soldiers. Julia also hopes to grow the display until she reaches 100,000 poppies.
This project began one year ago when Julia offered free soup to veterans on Remembrance Day. She was inspired by the soldiers and their stories, which prompted her to transform the Don Bar into a tribute to war heroes. When Julia started receiving poppies made by disabled soldiers she started placing them around the bar.
